WHAT IS A "MPV UNITY MOSQUE?"

This "awesome" mosque is "pretty gender-egalitarian, no partitions between men and women... A new masjid is being built to accomodate the growing community." - Zainab A.

By 'Unity' we mean an inclusive and caring environment in which no one is segregated or excluded. Where new Muslims, old Muslims, LGBTQ Muslims, and Muslims in mixed-faith relationships are welcome. Where attendees are invited in turn to lead prayer, regardless of gender. This means that the prayer may be led by a man or a woman, the sermon may be delivered by a man or a woman. Where the group of congregants pray and is seated together, and where families can pray together, like we do in Mecca. Of course, individual men and women can choose to stand/sit to one side or the other if they prefer.  All who come with an open mind and loving heart are welcome -- including non-Muslim friends, significant others, etc.

Our MPV community has always been committed to welcoming interfaith, same sex couples and their children. In our society where these marriages are taking place more often, unfortunately more often than not, they do not find a community that is inclusive of such marriages. Where do they go?

We hope you will seek out our MPV community as your spiritual home. It is a space where your non-Muslim family members will always be welcomed, where their religious traditions are treated with equal respect, and where celebrating mixed religious holidays are welcomed!
